The above image is a normal view of LifeLine Chat.
All LifeLine Volunteers are indicated in the user list with an
icon at the end of their names.
Type your message at the bottom of the screen. Press enter or click the "post" button to send your message.
You can only send and receive private messages with volunteers.
To do this simply select a volunteer in the user menu next to your message entry field, type in a message as usual, and the message will be sent privately to the volunteer. You may also type /msg then the volunteer's nickname then type your message to send a PM.
If a volunteer's name appears in brackets in the chat window, it indicates that the message that follows was sent to you as a private message. Only you will see messages sent to you privately.
A list of commands can be viewed by typing /help in the message box.
Here is what you see if type /help:
[HELP] commands: /msg nickname message - send private message to a volunteer /help - this helptext /about - about this program /me - action (eg "/me says hello" will appear as "* user says hello") /userinfo nick - userinfo about (offline) user /memo nick message - leave message for offline user /away message - set or unset away status and post message
You can only talk to volunteers via the private message function.
There are two ways to do this:
The first is to use the /msg function.
Simply type /msg followed by the name of the volunteer you want to get in touch with privately.
You then type your message and when you post the volunteer sees your message privately.
The second way to message privately is to go to the drop down user menu and click on the username of the volunteer you want to send a private message to.
Type your message and when you post it the message will appear only to that individual volunteer.
To have one of these faces show up simply type the command for that face.
