Chat Guidelines

LifeLine has three chatrooms available to you. Our chatrooms have volunteers willing to talk to you about any problem you are having.

LifeLine Chat is a place where less serious discussion often occurs. You can get together with others in a less serious atmosphere, but when somebody who needs help enters, everyone participates in talking with the visitor.

Room two is for more intense discussion about more serious problems. If for any reason you don't feel comfortable in the main room, room two is available upon request.

One-on-One chat is for you to talk to a volunteer in a private atmosphere. Simply let a volunteer know that you would like to meet in the One-on-One room and he will join you there. A third person is not able to enter this room when two are present.

Volunteers have an symbol at the end of their names.

Chat Rules

1. Visitors must comply with all requests from volunteers.
2. Do not use the chat to admit to or commit illegal activity. This includes (but is not limited to) trying to meet visitors of any age for illegal purposes (sexual or otherwise), and the posting of obscene material or child pornography, both written and visual, or links to such material.
3. Act according to the intent of LifeLine resources. The intent of LifeLine is to provide support. Harassing and insulting visitors is in direct contradiction with that.
4. Do not violate other visitors' confidentiality or security. This includes (but is not limited to) mentioning identifying or specific information (even nicks), linking nicks and quoting a visitor.
5. All links must be approved by a vol before they are posted in the chat.
6. You have the right to ask the LifeLine administration to reconsider any decision made by an individual volunteer. See our contact page to contact us.

These rules are needed so LifeLine may continue as a resource for people seeking guidance or counselling.

If the chatrooms are closed, please use our message board. It is there to help you when no volunteer can be in the chat.

If you can't wait until the chat is open or you find the message board isn't helping, you can use our submit form where a time can be arranged for a volunteer to meet you in one of the chatrooms.

New nick registration:

New nick registration may be disabled from time to time.

If you find you are unable to register a new nickname please contact LifeLine with your desired nick and password and we will respond to your registration request as soon as possible.

For your own security, please use a password that you do not use elsewhere.
